How To’s Day: Burda Style’s Smocked Maxi Dress!

July 15th, 2014 by Camelot Fabrics

Hi everyone!

Happy Tuesday! We hope everyone is having a lovely day. It is the last day to enter our Itty Bitty FQB x coordinating Aurifil Spools Giveaway on our Facebook Page, so be sure to enter if you’d like. Good Luck to everyone entering!! PS: We’ve been excitedly going through all the new summer song suggestions, and have been loving them in the office…so thank you so much! :)

It’s also time for this week’s How To’s Day! We absolutely adore Burda Style, and are often found perusing on their website and magazines for sewing and style inspiration. They have a ton of creative and beautiful content each issue, there’s always something new, and we’re always inspired! As well, their patterns are always on-trend and such an ease to work with. They have a fantastic webisode dedicated to sharing sewing tips & tricks, as well as fun project tutorials for everyone. They have an online forum and gallery where fellow sewing enthusiasts can post their newest creations, either using a Burda Style tutorial or one that they made themselves…such a great place to share!

The Camelot Design Studio was inspired by one of Burda Style’s patterns, and decided we had to give it a try! Their Smocked Maxi Dress caught our eye – it’s stunning, flow-y, chic, and perfect for Summer! Those of you who are subscribed to our e-newsletter might have seen these dresses already in all their prettiness. We envisioned it with our Fruit Stand by Jane Farnham Collection and it came out even better than we imagined! We did tweak it just a little bit to give it some Camelot Design Studio flair, but the original is just as pretty. We decided to add a zipper front instead of the buttons (we have an easy tutorial for that HERE),  decided to add some in-seam pockets, replaced the neck & armhole binding with rolled hems, and omitted the sash.

One of our designers, Valeria, loved this dress so much that Marion (another Camelot Design Studio designer and sewing & project guru!) made one for her birthday. Val decided on a blue print from Mint to Be, and it’s such a lovely choice!  As well, she wanted a shorter dress so Marion made a hemmed version of the Smocked Maxi Dress for her. Needless to say, Val was pretty excited when she received her birthday gift this year! The Smocked Maxi Dress by Burda Style is a perfect Summer essential… a girl can never have too many maxi dresses in her closet (easiest thing to throw on and still look cute/put together!) and this one is definitely a must-try! :)
