HOW TO’S DAY: PLANNING A WEEKEND GETAWAY IN VERMONT

June 28th, 2016 by Camelot Fabrics

Who said How to’s day  blog posts had to be about quilting and sewing?  This is a special How To’s as I will show you how to plan a weekend getaway to Vermont with your Best Quilting Friends! I know this post is late for this year, that’s because I was living the moment over the weekend! I hope this post will inspire many of you to plan this trip in 2017.

I feel very fortunate to have many Best Quilting Friends and a bunch of us got away from it all and headed to our favorite place to be on the last week end of June: Vermont.

This is THE weekend to go if you are a quilter!  You can start at the Vermont Quilt Festival in Essex Junction and since you are there, stay for a night and head south on route 7 to Shelburne Museum where you will have the pleasure of seeing a great museum with a building dedicated to textile!  They have a section featuring some of their antique quilts and another section featuring a different artist every year!

In the picture below, we actually got a very nice tourist who agreed to take our Selfie cause we just couldn’t fit if one of us was holding the camera!  We were in the Special exhibit featuring Dominique Ehrmann.

I am sure you will also have many special moments to cherish forever!

This year, the Vermont Quilt Festival was celebrating their 40th anniversary and  Ruth B. McDowell was their special exhibit along with a variety of antique quilts in the Miller North building.  There were also 200 quilts featured in the competition located in the Miller South building and I am very proud to say that I won a 2nd place ribbon!

If you are looking for a place to stay while in Vermont!  Look into the Strong House Inn located a bit more south in Vergennes. They have the ultimate setting for quilters to reignite their creative passion and be spoiled in the process. You CAN bring your sewing machine and quilt in a room that was built for this very purpose!

So there you have it!  With so many activities you can’t go wrong.  I honestly don’t know what I enjoyed most… seeing wonderful quilts or being with wonderful friends.
