How To’s Day: Gift-Topper Bow

December 23rd, 2014 by Camelot Fabrics

Hi everyone,

Happy Tuesday! This week’s Free DIY is a Christmas Eve-Eve special: a sweet little finishing touch on all those gifts you’re wrapping up to pile under the tree. After all, there’s nothing like a perfect bow to give a little “wow” to your wrapping!

Click “more” to see how!

Supplies – Makes (3) Bows

For the bow in Mint:
- (1) sheet of Solid Soft Felt (12” square) from Camelot Fabrics in 88 #22 S

For the bow in Sky blue:
- (1) sheet of Solid Hard Felt (12” square) from Camelot Fabrics in 88 #20 H

For the bow in Sky blue with Stars:
– (1) sheet of Printed Hard Felt (12” square) from Camelot Fabrics in 218002 #07 H

For all color ways:
- scrap of Ad-Fab™ (12” square) from Camelot Fabrics in Golden Dots from the Nightfall Collection Stack (AF-NIGH-01)
– Silhouette Cameo machine & cutting mat*

* If you don’t have a Silhouette machine, you can download the Bow Template PDF here, to print & trace onto your Felt & Ad-Fab™. In this case, you’ll need:
– a paper printer
– a pen
- scissors, or a craft knife & cutting mat

Cutting

1. Save the E-004_bow_template_silhouette.jpg file to your computer, and open it in Silhouette Studio. Trace the pieces by selecting Object > Trace from the top menu, and cut out the shapes in Felt.

2. Save the E-004_band_template_silhouette.jpg file to your computer, and open it in Silhouette Studio. Trace the pieces by selecting Object > Trace from the top menu, and cut out the shapes in Ad-Fab™.

You should now have:

Assembly

1. Fold the tabbed ends of (1) Loops piece toward its center as shown, so they overlap at the middle. If you’re working with Printed Felt, the felt’s printed side should be outward.

2. Pinching the end & middle of the Loops piece between your thumb and forefinger, place the Loops on a Tails piece as shown. If you’re using Printed Felt, the printed side of the Tails should be facing toward the Loops.

3. Peel the paper backing from (1) Band piece. Wrap it around the center of the Bow so that its ends overlap at the back of the work.

For an extra-lofty variation, try using (2) Loops pieces to make a double-bow, as we did with our Soft Solid Felt in Mint. Just remember – if you do this, you’ll need to cut (1) extra Tails piece for each double-bow. While you’re at it, why not tie on some pretty curling ribbon?
