How To’s Day: Square Bunting Banner Tutorial

April 15th, 2014 by Camelot Fabrics

Hi everyone!

Happy Tuesday! We hope everyone is having a fantastic day. We are excitedly preparing for some Easter festivities here at the office, including a fun Easter egg hunt and pastel washi tape wall décor. We’re excited!! And to those who celebrate, Happy First Day of Passover! :)

It’s also time for this week’s How To’s Day! Today we are sharing a fantastic project for you all, just in time for all the upcoming Spring celebrations. We love celebrating anything, but there is nothing as pretty as a springtime tea party infused with all things colorful and bright…and of course, lots of fresh florals all around!

With the amount of celebrations we have throughout the year, we are always up for the challenge of decorating to our heart’s content! We love crafty and DIY parties, and we always find a ton of inspiration on our Pinterest. The project we are sharing today, our Square Bunting Banner Tutorial, is perfect for any occasion or party – it is simple, but adds the perfect amount of punch to any décor, especially with our Neon & On Collection. And because this is made from fabric, it can be reused for multiple occasions, and can be used later on to decorate a bedroom!

Supplies

– Fat eighth yard of the following Neon & On patterns:
– 4141001 #3  Neon Yellow Honycomb
– 4141002 #1  Neon Green Tiger
– 4141003 #3  Neon Yellow Scroll

– 1-3/4 yds of bias binding in coordinating color
– Sewing machine & thread
– Scissors & fabric shears
– Iron & pressing surface
– Fabric marker

Notes:
– Please wash, dry & iron your fabric before beginning.
– Seam allowances are included in the templates.

Instructions

1. Print the Square Flag Template at 100% of actual size. Trace it (5) times onto a folded double layer of your fabric, Right Sides together. Make sure that the fabrics’ patterns are oriented according to the direction of the flags. Cut out these (5) flags.

2. Sew each pair of flags, Right Sides together, with a 1/4” seam around the bottom and sides. Leave the top edges open. Clip your corners, press your seams open & turn the flags Right Side out.

3. Topstitch the flags, 1/8” from the sewn edge around all four edges.

Print

4. Cut (2) 7” long pieces of bias tape and topstitch them closed, backstitching at the beginning and end of the seam.

5. Pin (1) flag at the center of the remaining 49” strip of bias so that its top edge is encased in the tape’s fold. Position & pin a flag on either side of the first one in the same manner, with their inner edges against the outer sides of the first. Repeat with the remaining (2) flags.

Print

6. Topstitch along the full length of the 49” bias strip, so its ends are closed and the flags are firmly anchored. Backstitch at the beginning and end of this seam.

7. Stitch a 7” strips of bias to each end of the flag banner, 7” from the end of the long piece of tape. This will give you a double-strand tie at either end of the banner.
