Moody Monday – Star Trek: Galaxy Pop

August 8th, 2016 by Suzanne @ Camelot

How many of you were able to go to Comic-Con in San Diego?  It must have been quite a weekend.

In case you have been too busy in your sewing room to glance outside, I feel the need to let you know that this is a very special year for fans!  They are celebrating Start Trek’s 50th anniversary!  Whether a fan or not, this is quite an accomplishment:

`On September 8, 1966, a new television series premiered with a basic mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and civilizations, to boldly go where no one has gone before. Little did anyone expect Star Trek to become one of the most adored and influential entertainment icons of the last half century.

So the next time you are facing self-doubt in your work and feel that your sewing projects are not getting the attention they deserve, remember the following truths about Star Trek: The Original Series:

  • The first pilot was rejected,
  • NBC threatened to cancel the show during its second season, and
  • NBC cancelled the series after the third year.

Have I helped you go back to your sewing?  If I haven’t helped, this new Star Trek fabric collection will surely do the trick.

There is no debate – Star Trek is a classic and this collection is perfect for any Star Trek fan!  Filled with pops of color and memorable characters, the collection is fan-proof.  We even have an awesome panel featuring the legendary Captain T. Kirk and Commander Spock.

I was able to steal a panel from production a few months ago and make a trapunto quilt with it and our Design Director was the lucky one in the company who got to attend our local Comic-Con and get it autographed by William Shatner.

I hope you have enjoyed this Moody Monday!  What are you planning to make with this collection? Be sure to check out the full program in your local quilt shop.  Click here to find the one nearest your home.

Oh! I’m so excited for this line! Star Trek came into my life in high school when I desperately needed something to give me hope and a focus. It opened my eyes to the world of fandom, which eventually led me to being a book reviewer who specializes in comics for kids and teens. And because I remember how much I hated my own teenage years, I try to make them just a bit better for the teens I work with as a librarian.
Just as Star Trek gave me an outlet when I needed it, so too did quilting and sewing. A few years ago I was uncertain about the direction I should take professionally and very much in need of a new artistic outlet. A friend who knew I had sewn in the past got me hooked on quilting. Now, the friends I have made in the sewing community–both online and in real life–keep me grounded and focused.
Thank you to your company for being a part of that community.
